The Kerala Dowry Prohibition Rules was issued by the state government in 2004 under the Kerala Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961.

 The Dowry Prohibition Rules were built on the demand of the National Commission for Women.


Three Regional Dowry Prohibition Officers, Trivandrum, Ernakulam and Kozhikode have been appointed as members of the project.

Chief Dowri Prohibition Officer is Director of Social Justice. Dowry requests may be made either by parents or by relatives or by any recognized organization or institution.

The RDPO will investigate and locate the complaint within a month. Punishments will be only against those who do not comply with the directions and orders within the specified time frame.


All the government employees who are getting married should not be given dowry after marriage. In this affidavit, the wife, father, father and wife's father must sign.

This should be mandatory and this document comes under the dowry prohibition law.
